Florø 2008/09: The tradition of welcoming a New Year in Florø, the westernmost town in Norway, is a special one. Locals are spending days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve building sculptures, which, in an ironic way, sums up the local events during the past year.
At midnight they march through the town, to the rhythmic beating of drums, and end the route by a big bonfire, where they symbolically are burning the last year's events.
The streets are crowded with people dressed up in all sorts of costumes, and for the not invited, it might look like a big New Year’s Eve carnival.
It's not. It's Kjippen.
